Join us on Saturday, October 17th for the gravesite dedication honoring Clark Levi Barber, grandson of American Revolutionary War Patriot Gideon Barber. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, 611 N. First St. in DeKalb.
Hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and DeKalb Township, the dedication will be only the second ceremony of its kind held in DeKalb County. The program will include the presentation of colors, a benediction, tributes, remarks, and a biography highlighting Clark Levi Barber’s life. A three-inch bronze medallion will be unveiled and dedicated at his gravesite, permanently recognizing him as the grandson of a Revolutionary War Patriot.
Representatives from the DAR, SAR, and DeKalb Township will join Barber’s descendants, community members, history enthusiasts, and other guests in commemorating his life and his connection to America’s founding generation.
Oakwood Cemetery is owned and maintained by DeKalb Township. The Township’s participation reflects its continuing commitment to caring for the cemetery and preserving the stories of those laid to rest there.
Following the ceremony, attendees are encouraged to visit the historic Ellwood House Museum, located next to Oakwood Cemetery, to continue exploring DeKalb’s rich local history.
Community members are encouraged to attend this rare and meaningful ceremony and help honor DeKalb County’s connection to Revolutionary War history.
